NCAR presented their first adventure race in March 2007 and it was a big success. Durham, NC was the backdrop to this race. We had the teams meet at a location near Duke University and this was used as their transition area. It was scheduled as an 8 hour race, but we were expecting teams to complete in the 5 to 6 hour range. Race start time was 9AM. Maps and coordinates were given out for the first leg of the race (trekking) at the race start. After the teams came back to the transition area to start the bike leg, we handed out the second wave of coordinates. This race was either trekking or mountain biking. There was no paddling involved. Team Spandex Bandits took home the NCAR trophy and the prizes (gift certificates to salons, etc). Everyone complimented the race and stayed after for a barbeque at a picnic shelter in Duke Forest. Good times!
